Easter Island Total Solar Eclipse
This Sunday, 11th of July 2010 a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from Easter Island with a partial eclipse casting a shadow over the lower part of South America.
Easter Island (or Isla de Pascua in Spanish) is already a tourist magnet due to its large Moai statues though the additional increase of visitors due to the eclipse worries the local authorities because of the environmental damage that may ensue.
If you would like to partake in this astronomical event then you are pretty much out of luck since the first reservations were made as far back as 2006. There now appears to be no accommodation available due to a large number of tour groups coming specifically for the event.
