Typical after school programme on Chilean TV

Dumb skimpy clothed models on Chilean TV

Yes, it is a well-known stereotype that models are dumb. They seem to be the butt of many (really, really, really) funny jokes. Of course there are many exceptions to the rule like the international Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, the local Tonka Tomicic, Cecilia Bolocco and, um, ah… (it took me three hours making that list of intelligent models and I was still in doubt about Cecilia for being married to Carlos Menem).

However, and unfortunately, the stereotypical ones seem to thrive on local TV with a total lack of self respect (don’t get me started on the curly-haired Luli). The “Flesh industry” seems to be rather profitable in Chile both for producers and the models.

I consider myself a normal guy, married to a lovely Chilena and yes, like all men, appreciate women. If your man says they don’t, it’s because they want to avoid a whipping and the oh so horrible just-wait-till-we-get-home evil glares courtesy of the wife. But anyway…

What is it with all those skimpy clothed models on Chilean TV?
Turn on almost any TV show and you will find one or two models, that are 50% artificial, or plastic, doing absolutely nothing next to the show’s presenter other than smile falsely and giggle like a school kid. It must lower your IQ somehow. Then you have the after school shows where the number of models multiplies considerably. Now THAT is serious brain damage!

Shows after school are a little different nowadays
When I was younger, I remember watching Scooby Doo and the Smurfs on TV after school (I hope saying that doesn’t come back to haunt me later). Those cartoons now seem incredibly tame compared to what you will find turning on TV after school in Chile nowadays. All you will see are programmes like Yingo, Mekano or the likes with a dozen young babes and a dozen young hunks lined up doing something similar to line dancing but without the clothes. Yee Haa!!! They all seem to fight for the camera spotlight and their piece of fame and the best way to do that is to have a couple of pieces of thread for clothing, getting caught in a cat fight at a top disco or breaking up with (yet another) babe/hunk from the show.

If your Spanish is good, you many want to read the following post about whether we should let the new generations watch these types of programmes: ¿Debiésemos dejar a las nuevas generaciones ver programas como Yingo?

Chilean Show Women
Did you know that there is a profession in Chile known as “Show woman”? Yes, they use English to make it sound like it is a prestigious form of employment though in fact it can be quite the opposite. Basically this “profession” involves having numerous surgical enhancements (especially breast, butts and lips), standing around in tight dresses that show lots of cleavage, and basically nothing else really, oh, other than talk about their latest break-up and maybe some more wiggling of the behind.

Sorry, it just flopped out!
There is a typical characteristic of all show women. It is the bad habit of having a breast “accidentally” flopping out of a dress every few months so they can make the front page of every local newspaper. Does that ever happen on dance shows on national TV in the States (or elsewhere) or is it just a Chilean thing. (OK, just remembered Janet’s “accident” at the Super Bowl).
Thinking about it a bit more, I have never heard of Chileans using the term “Show man”. Maybe because man boobs are not considered sexy (desperately trying to erase conjured image of man boob flopping out of tight sparkly top – YUK!)

Oh, and if you found this article via google and expected to see more scantily clad photos… sorry!

Just what to add something that I suppose doesn’t just refer to Chilean TV…
Why does plastic surgery on lips always look so bad?
You know, those lip implants that always look terrible. Why?
If you are a woman thinking of doing… from a guy’s perspective, DON’T DO IT!
End of rant.
