Yes, another great picture, this time to do with the Chile vs Spain World Cup Match happening this Friday 25th of June 2010. A decisive match for both teams with Chile hoping to prove itself yet again though this time against one of the world’s best teams.

So what makes the picture funny?

The guy holding the tattered Chilean flag is actually from an iconic photo from the aftermath of the terrible 8.8 (Richter scale) earthquake that hit Chile on the 27th of February 2010. He found the dirty flag amongst the ruins of Pelluhue (322km south of Santiago) that was just about wiped off the map by the tsunami. The flag has become a symbol of survival of the great earthquake of 2010.

And just so you know, this flag is actually accompanying the Chilean squad in South Africa.

Of course what comes to mind when you think of Spain (apart from a debaucherous night involving gallons of Sangría)… bullfighting. Chile, instead of a red cape, is using its flag, which contains red anyway, to provoke the Spanish bull… and we all know how bullfights end.

Oh, and as the picture says…

The game is on Friday 25th at 2.30p.m. (Chilean time) so again, don’t expect anything to be open or happening that entire afternoon. It happens to be on the eve of a long weekend too, all the more reason to finish early. We ourselves will be closing our companies early that day to have a BBQ and watch the game on the big screen with staff and students.

What do you think about the picture? Did it put a smile on your face?
